Obituary of Maria Lidia Gouveia

It is with great sadness that we announce that Maria Lidia Gouveia “Lidia” passed peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday morning, August 5, 2020 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital with her son Humberto by her side. Predeceased by her loving husband Sebastiao Pacheco Gouveia. Loving mother of Gabriella (the late John Pereira), Joe (Fatima), Natalie (Filipe), Gil (Gleice), Dora (Joe), Antonio (Ana), Humberto, George (Mary), and Donald (Lucy). Predeceased by her parents, Jose Cordeiro and Maria Dos Santos, son Armando and daughter Lidia (Keith).Cherished grandmother of 26 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Evelyn (the late Humberto), and Eduarda (the late Jose). Predeceased by her brother Jose Cordeiro and sister Maria Grilo. Greatly missed by her nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends and extended family. Lidia was the most affectionate and generous woman you could ever meet, always a lady and always polite. Lidia greeted everyone with open arms and treated you with kindness and respect. Lidia was wise, selfless, intelligent and an extraordinary conversationalist. A hard working homemaker and teacher at heart, who was dedicated, devoted and committed to her children, God and spouse. Lidia held strong values and beliefs, including religious and community. She had a sense of humour, loved babies, and enjoyed a variety of hobbies including baking Portuguese sweet bread, reading, gardening, sewing, and knitting. She was remarkably responsible and well organized, especially with 11 children of her own. Lidia cherished the time she had with her spouse and son at home for many years. They enjoyed their beautiful home in Oakville and often watched television together and reminisced about life and their children. Anyone having the pleasure of meeting Lidia in person would remember her always by her vibrant personality and beautiful smile, leaving an imprint on your heart. Maria Lidia will be deeply and profoundly missed, especially by her children and grandchildren. Due to the current pandemic, a private family service will be held for Lidia.
