Obituary of Joan M.H. Christie
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Christie on August 5, 2020 wife of Walter Christie for 63 years and mother of Yvette. Grandmother of Todd, Tara (Andrew) & Tess. Great-Grandmother to Isabella, Sophie & Ethan. Joan emigrated to Canada in 1966 with Wally and Yvette arriving in New York City on the SS France ocean liner. They settled in the Toronto area originally staying in the upstairs apartment of the Wheatley family who are relatives of the Christie family. Joan worked for CIBC in many different capacities for over 20 years and retired in 1990. In 1968 Joan met Margaret Lorne at CIBC. She had recently emigrated from England with her new husband Glenn. They remained lifelong friends with the Lorne family making many treasured memories. The Lorne's welcomed their daughter Julie in 1973. Many Christmases were spent at the Christie home celebrating with the Lorne family. I remember vividly holding baby Julie for her first Christmas in 1973 at our home in Georgetown. In the summer of 1990 after retirement Joan and Wally embarked on an epic driving adventure across the United States visiting 42 out of the 50 states over a period of six weeks. They visited with many friends along the way & saw many wonderful sights. Those who knew Joan know how much she loved to entertain always happy to decorate her home to coincide with the holiday or celebration. Joan and Wally were active members of St. Kevin's Church in Welland. Joan was an excellent reader on Sundays and Wally served at funerals. Joan was also a member of the Catholic Women's League. She also enjoyed getting together with the ladies of the Red Hat Society and weekly bowling. We will all miss Joan very much. I hope she's having fun in heaven with her parents, our family dog Susie and all her friends that passed on before her.
