Obituary of Devon A. Haye
Devon Anthony HayeJuly 31, 1997 – July 20, 2020Our beloved and most precious son, Devon Anthony Haye, passed away at the tender age of 22, just shy of his 23rd birthday. Devon fought a courageous two-year battle with cancer, and through it all, his resilience was unwavering as he continued to live his life with passion and integrity.Devon will be forever missed and cherished by his parents, Leslie and Richard, and his younger sister, Jaden, who cannot imagine a day without him. He was dearly loved by his grandparents, Josie and Paul Trebilcock, Anthony Bortolotto and Fernanda Iorfida, and Raynor and the late Joyce Haye, and will be missed by his aunt Pam, aunt Debbie, uncle Michael (Majda), and countless cousins and extended family. Devon was also blessed with a wealth of friends who will continue to keep his spirit alive.Devon always lived his life well beyond that of his years. He created his first business (Pedestal Productions) at the age of 17. He was elected Co-President in Grade 12 and was awarded many academic medals and scholarships in both high school and university. He was a member of the Management Undergraduate Society at McGill University where he excelled in Management Case Competitions. In his final semester, he competed in the Lazaridis International Case Conference, where his team placed 2nd amongst 12 universities and he was honoured with the award for Top Male Presenter. Devon embodied empathy, civility and compassion for all. His aspirations, goals and dreams were always for the greater good of others. He was committed to many social venture projects, including his own initiative to start a business benefitting Indigenous communities.Devon's love of travel took him to Vancouver and Northern Manitoba, road tripping through the U.S., and studying abroad in Singapore with visits to Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Philippines and his favourite, Vietnam. He also travelled to Jamaica, Mexico, and Greece and completed a two-month consulting project in South Africa.Devon was an academic, a scholar, an artist, an athlete, a philosopher, and an entrepreneur. He was passionate about music across genres and was keen to share new music with his sister and friends. He was known for creating playlists for parties and road-trips and even produced his own album. His work ethic was betrayed by his ability to make everything seem effortless. He had undeniable charm, a quick wit and a great sense of humour. His kind and beautiful soul touched the hearts and minds of all those who knew him. Devon, we are blessed to have had you in our lives and you will forever be in our hearts. The goodness and strength that you demonstrated is a lesson to us all. We love you. We wish to thank our family and friends for their love and support during Devon’s illness and through this very difficult time.Arrangements are entrusted to Capital Funeral Home and Cemetery.
