Obituary of Curtis Porter Salter
Curtis Porter Salter, age 95, passed away peacefully at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, on July 25, 2020. Curt was one of 11 children born in Diligent River, Nova Scotia, to Alexander and Mae (Porter) Salter. Curt had a 43 year career with Transport Canada. He first worked as a radio operator at various northern Canadian communities, and later became a manager of large telecommunication projects at major airports. He took professional pride in being a civil servant. In 1950, Curt married Daphne Brown (deceased, 1992). They had four children, Gary (Zoe), Gail Hughes-Adams (Ken), Diane Boland (Wayne), and Evan. He lived in Ottawa for over 60 years, never forgetting his Nova Scotia roots.Curt had a technical mind and a gift for repairing mechanical and electrical systems. He loved music and excelled at sports throughout his life. He enjoyed curling, badminton, swimming, jogging, downhill and cross-country skiing, wind- surfing and golfing at the Highland’s Golf Club. He was the founder and President of the Run for Your Life fitness club. He was kind, generous, family-loving and had a great sense of humour. His children and their spouses, seven grandchildren (Carl, Adrian, Laura, Erin, Adam, Shannon, and Heather), and ten great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members, including his two surviving sisters, Gloria and Flora, join together in saying, “You will live on in our hearts with love and respect, and we wish you eternal rest and peace now that your life journey has ended”.The family expresses gratitude to the staff at Stirling Park Retirement Community, and the Ottawa Civic Hospital. A private family service will be held at Capital Funeral Home and Cemetery, Ottawa on Sunday August 2, 2020.
