Obituary of John Gunson
John Robert Gunson was born September 18, 1923 at home in Plankinton, South Dakota to Jensena Marie Nelson and Thomas Gunson. He peacefully passed away on October 16 with his daughters at his bedside. He was a graduate of Junction City High School where he met Pauline McKercher. They were married in 1943 and celebrated their 62nd anniversary before Polly passed in 2005. He lived his adult life in Junction City where he and Polly owned Gunson Appliance for 34 years. After retirement they lived between Junction City, St. George, Utah, and Camp Sherman, Oregon, enjoying travel, golf, friends, and family. John served in the Navy during WWII. He was elected to the Junction City city council and office of mayor, serving a total of 24 years in city government. He was a member of the American Legion, Masons, and Shriners. He was proudly a founding member of Shadow Hills Country Club and golfed there for 48 years until November of 2010. He is survived by his daughter Sharon Friess, her husband Robert Friess of Salem, OR; daughter Pamela Edwards, her husband Kelly Edwards of Portland, OR; his grandchildren Mark Friess, Ryan Friess, John Friess, Daniel Friess, Emily Montgomery, Brent Friess, and Ben Edwards; and 12 great-grandchildren. His sister Betty LeClerc lives in Lebanon, OR. Visitation will be at West Lawn Memorial Funeral Home, 225 S. Danebo, from 8:30 a.m. ? 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 22nd. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at West Lawn with burial at Rest Lawn Memorial Park in Junction City following a reception at West Lawn.
