Obituary of Edmond De Melo

Edmond Antero De Melo Passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 14, 2020 at the age of 88. He was the beloved husband of Helen (Iles) for 57 wonderful years, loving and cherished father to Eddie (Hilary), Cathy (Brian) Mullally, Lorraine (Berto) Araujo, Cyndi (Joe) Karaz. Proud and adored Gramps/Papa to Jason, Alicia, Jessica, Melissa, Adam, Tyler, Jordyn, Emily and Ashley and Great Grandfather to Adrien and Mason. Edmond is pre-deceased by his parents Antonio and Beatriz De Melo, brothers Joe, Gabriel, Edward, Tony, Gilbert and Humbert and sisters Maria and Belmira. Edmond was known to all his friends as Ed. He was born in Rabo de Peixe, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal on January 31, 1932. He helped on the family farm until he joined the army. In 1956 at the age of 24, Edmond left his family in Portugal to come to Canada with friends. He lived in Toronto where he farmed, worked in construction, and was a cook until 1962 at which time, he moved to Streetsville where he met and married the love of his life Helen. They married in St. Joseph’s Parish in 1963 and raised their four children in Streetsville. Ed’s devotion and care for his wife and family was unwavering, he was a strong, gentle, and kind soul and always had a smile and kind words for everyone. Ed was hard-working, he worked at Reid Milling for many years until he retired at the age of 65. He spent his retirement enjoying time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Ed was a great cook, loved gardening, he was artistic and had a love of painting and drawing, he played multiple instruments by ear, including guitar, harmonica, and the accordion. For his retirement from Reid Milling, he was gifted with an electric guitar and amplifier.Ed will be dearly missed by his loving family, extended family and friends and will forever be in our hearts. Given these unprecedented times, a small private ceremony will be held for Edmond on Friday, July 17, 2020 . In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada. __________________________________________As directed by the Province of Ontario and the Bereavement Authority of Ontario the attendance at a funeral is restricted to 30% capacity or less and a record of attendance must be maintained.Wearing of masks, or face coverings, by everyone is mandatory during their time in the funeral home or cemetery.*Please take a moment and sign the online guest book.
