Obituary of Robert McGarry

Robert McGarryCOTTAGE GROVE — A memorial service will be held at noon Friday, Oct. 28, at Mid-Valley Community Church for Robert Campbell “Bob” McGarry of Cottage Grove, who died Oct. 20 of complications from chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He was 81.He was born Jan. 13, 1930, in Tucson, Ariz., to Thomas and Goldie McGarry. He married Naomi Mae Toedtemeier on July 3, 1950, in Hillsboro.He graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Helena and USS Iowa. He worked as a pipefitter and plumber for Local 290.Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Valerie Chapman of Woodburn, Valina Miller of Gervais, Vashti Boone of Springfield and Vanessa Dalton of Cottage Grove; two sons, Robert of Salem and Michael of Las Oswego; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. A son, Edgar McGarry, a granddaughter, Naomi Mae Chapman, and a grandson, Marlin McGarry, died previously.Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
