Obituary of John McMeekan
With his loving wife by his side, John McMeekan passed away peacefully at his home after a long illness in his 86th year. Beloved and devoted husband and best friend to Marie for 57 years. Cherished father to Craig (Karen). Loving Grandfather to Cassie and Josh. Born in Glasgow Scotland, he was a loving son to John and Elizabeth, dedicated brother to Betty, Wallace, Margaret, Rae, Isabelle and Una and beloved by the rest of his many extended family members. John was passionate about sports and was an accomplished soccer player and boxer winning the Scottish western district boxing championship at the age of 23. John and Marie immigrated to Canada in 1963 where he had a long career with the TTC. John furthered his love of sport being introduced to hockey while watching Craig play as a boy and became an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan. He started to play golf in his later years and enjoyed his weekly game with the boys at the Tam O’Shanter Golf Course. John was also an accomplished piper as a boy and for years he played the bagpipes with the Alt Gaidhealach Pipe Band in Scarborough. This opportunity created many fond memories for both John and Marie as they traveled and made great friends along the way. A private family service will be held at Glen Oaks Funeral Home, Oakville, for invited guests only due to Covid 19 restrictions. In lieu of flowers or donations, please raise a glass and have a toast in honour of John. John was loved and respected by all he touched and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Please take a moment to sign the online guestbook.
