Obituary of Walt Burgess

Walter BurgessA memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Oct. 29 at First United Methodist Church in Eugene for Walter F. “Walt” Burgess of Eugene, who died Oct. 3 of age-related causes. He was 84.He was born April 12, 1927, in La Center, Wash., to William and Sylvia Foglesong Burgess. He married Peggy Allen on Dec. 27, 1953, in Eugene. She died June 5, 2004. He married Donna Howell on March 31, 2007, in Eugene.He graduated with a Associate of Arts degree in art from Olympia Junior College in 1949, a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with administrative credentials from Western Oregon University in 1953 and a master’s degree in education from the University of Oregon in 1961. He served as a paratrooper in the Army during World War II. He worked as an elementary school principal from 1961 until his retirement in 1984. He worked at Magladry, Santa Clara, Coburg and Whiteaker schools.Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Nancy Anderson of Eugene; two sons, Brent of Eugene and Stuart of Grants Pass; and four grandchildren.Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.Remembrances to state of Oregon 4-H, First United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association, Cascade chapter.
