Bro. Wilfred has a rich History within and outside of Guyana and The Guyana Ex-Police Association of Canada (GEPAC) of which he is a founding member, who served on the executive.Following his father's footsteps, Wilfred enlisted in the Guyana Police Force (GPF) where he served from 1953 to 1960. As a sharp, youthful member of the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) better known as the Riot Squad, he enjoyed the semi-military dress and accoutrement, and the “swank-and-swagger display” on ceremonial occasions. Those were the days when the police boasted it’s military parade palaver against that of the other armed forces of its time. Wilfred recalls his mentors and his drill instructors. Among them was the legendary Whittington Braithwaite who made the supreme sacrifice in the Rupununi Uprising of Jan. 2. 1969. and show-boat instructor Edward John Anthony aka “Tiny" of The Big Apple (NY).As a member of the Riot Squad unit, Wilfred toured some of the remote areas in the hinterland of Guyana, including Good Hope in the Rupununi to protect the border during the outbreak of “foot & mouth” disease, and Kwakwani for riot duties. In 1956 Wilfred tied the nuptial knot. The couple migrated to the UK in 1960 where he successfully pursued his dream by completing studies in electrical engineering. After 13 years there, they moved to Canada where they now retired. On the job, Wilfred travelled worldwide to install monitoring systems in power plants and oil refineries. Some of his work remains as far away as Singapore, Venezuela, Nigeria, Togo and all across Canada.Wilfred and wife, long retired, now enjoy leisurely holiday travels and the full benefits of companionship at their lovely home in Oakville. Someone whispered that Br. Wilfred still finds some time for his favourite game of snooker.Respecting the current situation Ontario coronavirus restrictions, the Funeral Service for Wilfred will be for invited guests only. For those who wish to join us for the service via livestream on Friday July 3rd at 2:25 pm, please use this link https://www.distantlink.com/DLM1.htmlPassword Arbor2020As directed by the Province of Ontario and the Bereavement Authority of Ontario the attendance at the funeral and cemetery is restricted to 30% capacity or less and a record of attendance must be maintained.Wearing of masks, or face coverings, by everyone is mandatory during their time in the funeral home or cemeteryPlease take a moment to sign the online guest book.
