Obituary of Leroy Franklin Thomson
Leroy Franklin Thomson 1946 - 2020It is with much sadness and heavy hearts that we share with you the passing of Leroy Franklin Thomson at the age of 73 on June 25, 2020. After a long and brave struggle with cancer, Leroy passed away in his home, just how he wanted it, surrounded by the love and support of his family. Leroy was born November 9th, 1946 in Glace Bay Nova Scotia to the late Leroy (his name sake) and Harriet (Hattie) Thomson. He was the youngest of nine brothers and sisters: Al (Bunny), Gerald, Audrey, Roy, Mary (Mame), Elizabeth, Vivian and Bonnie.Leroy married the love of his life, Charlene Peckham on September 25, 1965 and they had 54 years of joy and happiness. CHARLENE!!!!!!! LOLThey were blessed with three amazing sons Leroy Franklin Jr, Dwayne Michael (wife Susan (daughter he never had) and Robert Patrick. Leroy was loved and adored by his sons who will continue to live on remembering the strong values instilled in them by their father. He was Papa to two grandsons and two granddaughters and their families: Lucas and Justin Thomson, Katie & Affan Hayat (children Aayan & Zyan) and Lindsay & Jamie Britton (children Connor & Matthew. You would often find Papa with the grandbabies at the local park. He loved to take the kiddos to feed the ducks. He adored and was so proud of them all. Leroy worked at General Motors Van plant for 20+ years until the doors closed. He was a well-respected supervisor by all who worked with him. From there Leroy went to work at Magna International until he settled into his retirement.Leroy’s easy going and fun loving spirit had him making friends everywhere he went. Always ready to give the shirt off his back to a friend in need. His kindness and big heart will live on forever in everyone’s memories.Leroy loved sports and played many throughout his 73 years. Hockey was his favorite sport and when he could no longer play, he still enjoyed watching it on TV. He could also be found at the local arena watching and supporting his two grandsons. He was an extremely proud Papa. Many a family banter could be heard at the Thomson household over what team or player was better. It was all fun and games as he would make us laugh with his crazy theatrics and player impressions. His impressions were academy award winning material. LOL!Leroy loved Christmas. It was his favorite time of year. If you asked him what he wanted for Christmas, his answer was always the same. SOCKS. And there was a reason for his request, because when we least expected it, a rolled-up ball of socks would come hurling at you. We learned to dodge them quickly. Leroy/Dad/Papa… Always remembered….In life, we loved you dearly,In death we love you still,In our hearts you hold a special place, That no one else will ever fill. The family had decided to not hold a funeral at this time, we will do a Celebration of Life later when the family and friends can gather safely.Online condolences may be left for the family by clicking on GUESTBOOK TAB above.
