Obituary of Catherine McCurry

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Catherine “Dolly” McCurry announces her passing at Chartwell Waterford Long Term Care Residence on June 21, 2020. It brings us comfort that Dolly passed peacefully, surrounded by members of her beloved family after two years of outstanding care by staff. Dolly was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, James “Jim” McCurry, and her children Elizabeth and Frank. She is survived by her children Marie and Patricia; her son-in-law John Schmidt and daughter-in-law Barbara McCurry; her grandchildren Rebecca, Timothy, Dane, Kevin, Adam, Nicholas, Hope and Erin; and her great-grandson Asher. Dolly was born one of six siblings on July 24, 1932 in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, where she would pick and sell wild blueberries. She took great care of Jim throughout her life and loved to dance, bet on horse races, and cheer on her Toronto Blue Jays. Dolly will be remembered for her overwhelming love for her family and acts of care, like making sure the stone steps at the cottage were well-lit when family arrived at night, and waiting on the dock for the boat to return her grandbabies safely on those well-remembered summer days. Her family will forever miss her warm smile, loving hugs, and holding her hand. She will be dearly missed.
