Gerhard Preuss

Obituary of Gerhard Preuss

“If there ever comes a day where we can’t be together,Keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever”- Winnie the Pooh (of course)Gerhard passed away on the morning of June 8, 2020 in his almost 94th year. Gerry was born in Danzig, Germany, one of four children of Willy and Freida Preuss. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Gudrun, brother Siegfried and sister Eva and will be dearly missed by his sister Elsbeth and her family. Lovingly remembered by his daughter Regine, son-in-law John, granddaughter Christina and her family and his daughter Sindy, partner Steven, granddaughters Sarah and Emily, and his partner Alexandra Amm.Gerry was a gentle man of simple words and needs but his principles and values spoke so loudly. A hardworking and loyal individual dedicated to supporting and caring for his close family and friends. Many knew him as “Opa”.After World War II, Gerry left his beloved German homeland to begin his adventure in Canada in the late 1950s. There he built a life for himself, Gudrun and Regine, and shortly afterwards, Sindy. He had a long career at St. Lawrence Cement where he retired after 28 years of service. Gerry had some interesting post-retirement stints as a custodian and an “apprentice” wine maker. Gerry loved to swim, cycle, play chess, read his German magazines and spend time with family and friends. He was passionate about visiting many parts of the world but his cherished destination was either a Caribbean beach or a Brauhaus in Germany for schnitzel and beer. He was loved by anyone who had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know him.Until we can clink glasses again and say Prost, Auf Wiedersehn, Opa!
