Obituary of Leo Patrick Warren
AUGUST 9, 1936 – JUNE 3, 2020We mourn the loss of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend – Leo Patrick Warren (Errol), who left this life peacefully on June 3, 2020 at Hills House Hospice after a short illness. He was 83 years old and leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Margaret, of 57 years, son Keith (Cathy), daughter Carolyn (David) and grandchildren, Charli, Alejandra and Marcus. He is survived by his sister Sheila Jordan of USA, and was predeceased by his mother, and stepfather Lucille and Monty Gittens. He will also be fondly remembered by his cousin Evelyn Tai-Oy-Yong, and his nieces and nephews Gillian, Sabina, Karen, Clive, Garth and Eschelle, as well as by his great nieces and nephews. Leo was born in Guyana and emigrated to Canada with his family in 1973. He was employed at the Metroland Publishing Co. until his retirement in 2001. He was a sports enthusiast and his passion for cricket was well known, as he himself played the game as a wicket-keeper in his earlier years at the Bookers Sports Club in Guyana.Leo was nick named Errol, after Errol Flynn, a name by which he was known by his family and those close to him, because of his swashbuckling demeanour and style. He was an avid reader, as well as a passionate fan of jazz. His knowledge and collection of jazz music were outstanding. Leo was a person of deep faith and was a shining example of how to grow through life’s challenges with quiet fortitude, hope and integrity. His peaceful, gentle ways, his sharp wit, sense of humour and love for family gatherings, will always be remembered and he leaves for his family a legacy of how to live with grace, dignity and a positive spirit in every circumstance of life.The family wishes to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to the doctors and nurses of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the Hill House Hospice for the loving and compassionate care given to Leo during his short stay with them.
