Obituary of Doreen O'Brien
Doreen O’BrienOur Mom was born in Windsor, Ontario in 1926, the youngest of six children born to Rebecca and Joseph Peterman. In her teenage years, Mom worked at Kresge’s before becoming a manager at a Laura Secord’s store (and she always retained her talent for identifying a chocolate’s filling just by glancing at the outside!) Later, she went to work in the payroll office at the Ford Motor Company where she met the love of her life, Patrick (Pat) O’Brien. They were married in 1953. Patti was born in 1955 and Michael (Mick) came along in 1960.Pat’s career moved the family “10 times in 10 years”, as they lived multiple times in Toronto, London, Hamilton, and Windsor, finally settling in their Mississauga home where the family gathered for celebrations and occasions for over 30 years, enjoying wonderful family dinners and Mom’s famous “grandma squares”.Pat passed away in 1998, and after spending several years in her condo, Mom moved to Greenway in 2013. She always enjoyed a glass of white wine, shopping and euchre games with her friends. Mom passed away on May 27 after a brief battle with cancer.Mom is missed by her children, (Patti and Michael), grandchildren (Andrew, Pamela, Alexandra and Lauren) and great-grandchildren (James, plus a new baby coming in July).Mom will be remembered for her love of family, wry sense of humour and no-nonsense approach to life.
