Obituary of Carmine Erme
Carmine Erme passed away peacefully on Friday, May 22nd, 2020 at the age of 79. Beloved husband of Maria for 58 years. Dearly loved father of Renata, Angioletta (Dante) and Evelina (Anthony). Much loved Nonno to Diana, Victoria, Gino Anthony, Adriano, Michael and Matteo. Carmine was born in Supino, Frosinone (Italy) on September 19th, 1940. At the age of 14 he started learning his lifelong craft as a master stone mason in nearby Rome, given the task of restoring many of the ancient buildings. In his much loved hometown he met and instantly fell in love with Maria, asking her to marry him the very same day he met her. One year later, on January 4th, 1962, they were married and moved into the home that he meticulously built for them. Shortly thereafter Carmine was called to service in the Italian military where he spent the next 18 months. In 1965, Carmine and Maria immigrated to Toronto, Canada with their eldest daughter. He found employment as a bricklayer, but once his bosses saw his passion and talent for stonework, he was quickly promoted to foreman and master stone mason where he was given the task of supervising and building many of the landmarks adored in Toronto today. In 1976, Carmine and Maria, together with their three daughters, moved to Caledon where he lived for the next 44 years. It was on this property that he was able to have a large vegetable garden and nurture a small hobby farm. During wine season Carmine was known for his famous acquata and wine and in the winter months his prized prosciutto and sausages. He always had an extra twinkle in his eye and a smile from ear to ear when he heard his grandchildren say, “Nonno, I want sassiccia.”Carmine was a devoted, hardworking honorable family man who always put his family first. His daughters were the apples of his eyes and he arduously worked to ensure that they were always provided for. It was important for him that they each obtained a university education. When his grandchildren were born, he loved spending time with them and showering them with much love and attention. During their retirement, Carmine and Maria enjoyed travelling. They travelled throughout Europe exploring new towns and countries, as well as fulfilling their dream of visiting the Holy Land, making sure to take a dip in the Dead Sea. No matter where their travels took them, they would always make certain to end their adventure in their beloved hometown of Supino. In our hearts, Carmine will always be remembered as a happy, giving, helping, generous family man who enjoyed life to the fullest and made every effort to ensure everyone around him always felt welcomed and loved. Daddy, we will miss your infectious smile. Ti vogliamo un mondo di bene. Riposa in pace Papa’.
