Obituary of Maria Ines Baptista
It is with profound sadness that the family of Maria Ines Baptista Frois announce her passing. Maria was born in Santa Maria, Acores, Portugal on July 10, 1941. The only daughter of Maria Lina and Manuel Baptista and younger sister of Dr. Jose Antonio Baptista. Maria passed away peacefully on the morning of May 23, 2020 with her children at her side. She is now reunited with the love of her life, Gil Frois (predeceased 2014) with whom she spent almost 57 wonderful years and her infant daughter, Anabela. Maria will be remembered for her independence, ambition and hardworking nature, qualities that served her well, both when she and Gil immigrated to Toronto for better opportunity and again when she fought sarcoma in her final years. She had a constant willingness to learn - the grandma who was ‘ahead of her time', taking pilates classes, having a cross stitch blog and an iPad before most. We will forever remember her talents with needle and thread - whether it be simply hemming our pants or her cross-stitch artwork that she took great pride in. Maria was a devout Catholic and trusted in God and had much faith in Senhor Santo Cristo. She loved her photographs and especially loved being included in pictures with friends and family. Maria was also an avid traveler. Her and Gil spent many summers in their Santa Maria home and travelling the world together cruising along to places anywhere from Alaska to Jerusalem. Along the way, she made many friends with whom she maintained contact with. Maria will be missed and honored by her loyal children, Frank (Bernadette), Vera (Joe Da Cunha) and Manny (Karen) as well as her brother and confidant Jose. Avo Ines’s presence and her abundance of baked goods including Portuguese sweet bread and biscoitos will always be fondly remembered by her grandchildren- Michelle Frois-Da Cunha, Lindsay (Anthony Campacci), Bryan Frois, Chantelle (David De Couto), Vanessa (Dean Kulla), Eryca, Reanna & Aaron Frois. She was also blessed to have the title of Great Grandma to Ariyanna, Niya, Jax, Nicholas, April, Summer and Jace. Maria Ines’s memory will continue to live on in her many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours and friends both near and far. A mass and celebration of Maria’s life will be arranged in the future, when it is safe to receive extended family and friends. In the meantime, please take a moment to leave a memory of Maria Ines in the guestbook and view some of her cherished photos. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or for future masses in honour of Maria. Due to the current pandemic, the family will be holding a private service to commemorate Maria's life.
