Obituary of Reda Filippo
In loving memory of Filippo Reda who passed away peacefully on Monday May 18th, 2020. Nonno Ippo, as he will be fondly remembered was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Married for over 55 years, predeceased by his wife Lina. He will be greatly missed by his daughters Anna (Eddy), Rosalia (Albert), Judy (Vito) and grandchildren Alyssa, Christopher, Michael, Anthony, Robert, Matthew and Celina. By his many family members and friends. He first came to Canada and married in 1964 from Paterno, Calabria Italy. He arrived with little money, education or the ability to speak English. But that didn't stop him, he forged ahead, married, had a family and settled in Toronto taking on odd jobs to make ends meet. He always supported and provided for his family first, never thinking of himself. He was a very simple man and never asked or wanted for anything. Nonno Ippo as his grandchildren fondly called him always put his family first and wanted them all close to him. He was the happiest when his family surrounded him at the table and shared a meal. He was a natural born storyteller and loved recounting the stories of his childhood/life to his grandchildren. He always had a story ready to tell about his travels to Luxembourg along with the hardships he endured as a child. He spoke highly of his brothers and sisters as he was the oldest of all the siblings and felt responsible for them. He was always there to teach and nurture them after losing their mother at a very young age. He woke every morning starting his day by reading one of the daily scriptures from the bible. Taking a long walk along the river at the local park for a breath of fresh air and pondering his days work. He loved his garden and being outdoors tending to his multiple trees, tomato plants, beans, lettuce and any other vegetable you can imagine. In the summer months you would always find him in the backyard enjoying the warm weather and his garden which took up the majorty of the space. Although greatly missed, we will all remember the dear, sweet, loving man he was and cherish all the memories of him very close to our hearts. Thank you everyone for all the messages of condolences and kind words-we all agree that he was loved by all and always had a warm friendly smile to share.
