Obituary of Avelina Frias
Passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 20, 2020 at The Humber River Hospital, North York. Beloved wife of Freddie (predeceased) for 50 years. Loving mother of Annie (David), Grace (Terry), Joey (Cris), Reggie, Rome,Tony (Jo-an), and Noel (predeceased). Cherished grandmother of Christian, Cassandra, and Cedric.Avelina was fully dedicated in caring for her large family. Once her children completed their studies, she volunteered as a part-time teacher of education in religious studies for public elementary and high school in the Philippines. Her last few years were rewarding as she partnered with the public school system in developing teaching curriculum that helped students gain confidence in God as well as knowledge and skills for a better future. She was also committed in teaching faith-based education to children in her neighbourhood. Avelina moved to Canada with her husband and family in the early 90’s. By this time, she had fully retired from her part-time teaching. But her love for God inspired her to continue to focus on faith-based activities. Unfortunately, she suffered a stroke and moved to a couple of nursing homes, where she was deeply cared for by devoted staff. Despite her limited mobility, Avelina was faithful in praying for people until her last breath. The family would like to specially thank the compassionate and caring PSWs, nurses, and all staff at The Village of Humber Heights. They were Avelina’s front-line heroes who, for several years until her final days, went above and beyond their call of duty to make Avelina feel loved and cared for, just like home. Avelina will be lovingly remembered by her family, nieces and nephews, relatives, brethren family, and friends. She will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives she has touched. Due to Covid19 restrictions, the funeral service in memory of Avelina will be streamed on line on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. EDT at the Glen Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery, with Pastor Henry Manansala officiating.
