Obituary of Josef Huber
Josef Frederick Huber, aged 77 of Mississauga, Ontario, died suddenly and peacefully on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at Trillium Hospital after complications from heart surgery.Joe is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 28 years, Elizabeth, and loving children Monika Huber Torre (Tim), Nancy Huber Kielar, Christopher Huber and Christina Ciraco (Chris). Proud Opa to Christina Romano (Justin), Anthony Romano (Jayme), Rachel Kielar (Sean), Maddy Kielar, Benjamin Di Marco and great-grandson Liam Romano. Devoted brother to Liserl Schmalzl and uncle to Klaus Schmalzl and Markus Schmalzl in Austria. Fondly known to family and friends in Austria as “Sepp.”Joe was born on March 7, 1943 to parents Maria Schmidt Huber and Josef Huber in Laufen, Germany, but lived his life in Lamprechtshausen, Austria (just outside of Salzburg). He emigrated to Canada as a teenager, attending Ryerson Polytechnical Institute (now Ryerson University) in Toronto. Joe began his career at Westinghouse Canada, eventually landing at Siemens Medical Systems, where he headed up their Medical Services Division, in charge of smooth operation of all medical technologies across Canada for almost 30 years. His job took him back to Siemens head office in Europe quite frequently, and he was able to visit family and friends in Austria often.Intelligent and kind, Joe was always there to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed chatting with others, immersing himself in conversation with everyone. He loved to laugh and always had a funny “saying” to share! He also enjoyed his other beloved “child”, his dog, Winston. Liz brought home Winston for Joe in 2000 to help him recuperate from his heart attack in 1998. He loved to walk with Winston daily, and their time together helped Joe become strong and healthy again!Joe was ever the Renaissance Man! He enjoyed playing many sports, swimming and horse-back riding and especially soccer and skiing in the Austrian Alps. A favourite summer past-time was taking in a Toronto Blue Jays baseball game with his fellow Jays fan wife, Liz. Joe fulfilled his long-time dream of flying, and earned his pilots license on February 6, 1978 at Buttonville Airport near Toronto. He loved to take his kids up for a spin in the plane, and got a real kick out of flying over the homes of family and friends and flashing his airplane lights to say “hi.” Later in life, Joe loved his daily walks and coffee with his fellow retired buddies, where daily they would, to quote Joe, “solve the problems of the world”!Private family visitation to take place on Monday, May 25th 2020 from 2 pm – 4 pm.
