Wendell George HardyJuly 25, 1931 – May 14, 2020I could not do without Thee,No other friend could read,The spirit’s strange deep longingInterpreting its need.No other heart could enter, this dim recess of mine,And sooth and hush and calm it,O blessed Lord but Thine.Wendell passed away in the early morning hours of May 14, 2020 in his 89th year, at Churchill Place retirement residence in Oakville Ontario. Wendell was born in Foxley River, P.E.I., the fourth child of May Lorena Milligan and Major Wesley Hardy. He is predeceased by his sister Violet, brother Lorne, sister Erma, and brother Alton. He will be dearly missed by Mary Hardy (Wells), his loving and faithful wife of 65 years, son George, daughter-in-law Margaret and grandchildren, Rachael, Mitchell and Brett. Lovingly remembered by his sisters Joyce and Elva, and brothers Eldon, Merrill and their respective families.Wendell (“Poppa”) was a gentle, humble, loving husband, father and grandfather who quietly and willingly sacrificed so much for those he loved. He started and ended his working career with the Bank of Nova Scotia. Born and raised on P.E.I., he was transferred by the bank from Charlottetown in August of 1954 and started a new life in Ontario with his wife Mary. They lived in Toronto until January 1967. He was transferred to Windsor to become the manager of the Ambassador Plaza branch. He and the family lived in Windsor for 10 years. In July of 1977, he was transferred to Toronto and moved to the family home of 40 years in Oakville. Wendell retired in August of 1989 after 39 years with the bank. In 2017, he and Mary moved into Churchill Place, a wonderful, caring retirement residence in Oakville where he spent the final three years of his life. To the staff of Churchill Place and the many personal care providers that supported dad over the past three years, thank you. Your support of him and your compassionate care was deeply appreciated. Poppa loved to read his Bible each day with Mary, go on long walks, play his violin, and most of all spend time with his three grandchildren. He was loved by anyone who had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know him. We will miss you Poppa till we meet again in Heaven. “For I am persuaded, that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Jesus Christ our Lord.
