Obituary of Elizabeth Anderson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Elizabeth (Betty) on Thursday May 14, 2020 at the age of 90 years. Elizabeth is now re-united with her loving parents Mary McGregor (nee McNulty) and David McGregor. She was the cherished wife of Douglas. Elizabeth was the loving mother of Ian and his wife Maria. Devoted grandmother of Ryan Anderson and his wife Christina Wallaert, Terra Anderson and her husband Jeffrey Curren, Liam Anderson and Cassidy Anderson and extended family grandchildren Cindy, Heather, Jennifer and Jeremy. Betty was the great grandmother of Elle and Jax and her extended family of great grandchildren Carter, Quinn, Annabelle, Benjamin, Ryder and Skylar. Elizabeth (Betty) was a wonderful grandmother and great grandmother to a very large immediate and extended family who loved her very much. She was the admired sister of Bill, Charlie, David, May, Rose, Mary, Hannah, Jimmy, John, Arthur, Lily and Flora and sister-in-law of Betty, Burns, Keith, Geneva and Grant. Betty was a much loved aunt to many nieces and nephews.Elizabeth was born in Blantyre Scotland on October 29, 1929 the day of the Great Depression she often joked about the fact that people were jumping out the windows for her on that day. At the age of 21 Elizabeth left her beloved Scotland and boarded the boat to Canada, she sailed into Pier 21 into Halifax. Elizabeth Married Douglas Anderson on August 1, 1953 at St Johns Anglican Church Toronto, and later honeymooned in Niagara Falls. In 1957 Elizabeth gave birth to their son Ian and they had no other children. Elizabeth joined the Women’s Land Army in her teenage years, she was very proud of helping when the men were off to war. She always said she was not afraid of work and spent many days shoveling poop as part of her job.Elizabeth worked at various jobs throughout the years. She worked at a local hospital, in factories on the line, cleaning houses and lunch lady at the school before retiring at the age of 58. Elizabeth loved to entertain and had many parties at her house. She loved baking cakes and her specialty was making wedding cakes as well as her famous empire cookies. After retirement Elizabeth and Douglas traveled regularly. They were snowbirds for many years in Florida. Her favorite place in the world was Hawaii which she visited several times. We would like to thank all the Staff, nurses, PSW’s and doctors at Southbrook Retirement Home where Elizabeth spent the last years of her life with her husband by her side while she battled Alzheimer’s. We would also like to thank all the Doctors and nurses at Brampton Civic Hospital for making the last couple of weeks of her life as comfortable as possible. In lieu of flowers donations in loving memory of Elizabeth to the Alzheimer’s society, Salvation Army or Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.In light of the current global pandemic with the present restrictions placed on group gatherings and the well-being of everyone, the family has decided there will be no formal funeral at this time. Your condolences and support are very much appreciated during this very difficult time.
