Obituary of Walter Morrison
It is with tremendous sadness that we share the passing of our loving and dearly beloved Husband, Dad and Gramps. Walter Morrison known to friends as "Wally” passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2020 at the age of 91 years.Wally will always be fondly remembered by Joyce, his wife of 68 years, and his children, Sheryl (Bob) Lubbock, Janice (Brian) Bacik and Scott (Elaine) Morrison. He was an amazing Gramps who will be dearly missed by his six grandchildren, Apryl (Travis), Brett, Chris, Casie, Breanna and Reece. A big brother to George (Beana), Jim (Wanda), Alex (Diana), Margaret (Don) and Jessie (Al). Walter will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.Walter was born in Montreal and was the eldest of six children, he delayed finishing high school and worked to assist with the family and later went back to night school to complete his high school and Bachelor of Commerce degree at Sir George Williams University. He worked in sales for most of his career being transferred from Ottawa, Mississauga and Edmonton to finally Woodstock, where he was Vice-President of Marketing until he retired.Dad played football in high school and was a boxer for a number of years, winning various titles, including National Championship in Light Heavy Weigh Class. He hoped to go to the Olympics, but they only had up to the Middleweight level. He was a member of the rowing club in Montreal where his wife Joyce, his brothers and friends spent a lot of time together. Dad also had a keen interest in tennis and was a certified instructor, heading up the junior program at Springfield Tennis Club in Mississauga where he taught for many years. He enjoyed bridge, downhill skiing and of course he loved to dance and sing. He was quite the dancer!! He was an avid golfer organizing the infamous “Wallyball” a weekly golf league when living in Foxboro Green Retirement Community, Baden, Ontario for a number of years. Wally and Joyce appreciated their retirement years as snowbirds venturing down to Florida where they enjoyed social gatherings, golf and tennis in Destin and Panama City, always organizing events.Wally was an honorary member of the Canadian Professional Sales Association, also a member of Kinsmen and Masons in Ottawa, a member of Rotary in Mississauga/Edmonton and Probus in Woodstock. Wally sat on the Board of Directors for the United Way branch in Woodstock for many years, as well as on the board at Craigowan Golf Course. He also served as golf captain for four years.Given these times, a small Funeral Service in memory of Walter will be held with immediate family on Monday, May 18, 2020 in Crestview Chapel at Glen Oaks in Oakville. The interment in the family plot at Glen Oaks will follow at a later time and a celebration of life will be planned in the future to gather with family and friends to share the wonderful memories we will cherish forever.We will truly miss his beautiful smile, great laugh, can-do attitude and love for life! There is emptiness in the world again.As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Walter may be made to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital or Heart and Stroke Foundation.“Loving memories last forever"
