Obituary of Hilke Wieringa

In Loving Memory, Hilke was born to parents Willem and Trijntje Wieringa on March 18, 1928, in Grootegast, Groningen, The Netherlands, the 3rd of 15 children. As a youth, he attended horticulture school, and then worked for a market gardener in Holland.In 1951, he immigrated to Canada. His first job was working at Dale’s greenhouses in Brampton, Ontario. During that time he added welding to his skills and in 1953 moved to Atikoken, Ontario, to work in the mines. Hilke met Alice Kaemingh in Emo, Ontario and they were married in Emo CRC on December 23, 1957. For the first years of their marriage, they had a beef cattle farm. Their first 5 children were born in Emo.In 1966, they decided to move to Brampton where Hilke returned to his welding career. Their 6th and last child was born in 1967. The family attended Second CRC of Brampton (now CrossPoint CRC), where Hilke served as both elder and deacon at various times. In both positions, his peers often noted that he was a man of few words, so that when he spoke, everyone would listen. He volunteered on the board of CRC World Relief Committee (now World Renew). When he retired in 1993, he started to volunteer for Disaster Relief. This became very dear to him, and he and Alice continued to work with Disaster Relief for 9 years. He was always willing and ready to help anyone in need.
