Obituary of Paul Bernhard Albrecht
Paul Bernhard Albrecht: June 8, 1931 – May 4, 2020On Monday May 4, 2020, Paul Bernhard Albrecht passed away at the age of 88 due to complications following a fall. He was born in Durmersheim Germany on June 8, 1931 to Emil and Anna Albrecht and was the youngest of five boys. Paul was eight years old when World War II erupted and spent much of his young life in Karlsruhe before immigrating to Canada as a young man where he became a successful businessman and co-owner of Temple Wire in Toronto, Ontario.Beneath his strong and steadfast exterior, Paul was a very kind and compassionate man who had a deep love for his family. He was a sports enthusiast and thoroughly enjoyed taking his only son Kim to and from countless hockey and soccer games during his youth where he took great pride in watching him play. He also lived vicariously through his world-traveler granddaughter Alanna who would call and send him pictures from around the world. Paul had a passion for boating and skiing, and in his final days he would close his eyes while resting in his bed and envision captaining his boat “Just For Kicks” on Lake Simcoe or skiing down the steep mountain slopes as his arms would move back and forth to guide his imaginary ski poles. Though his body gave out before reaching his life span goal of 101.5 years, his tenacious spirit will live on through his family and friends who will forever treasure his love and humor.Paul was preceded in death by his father Emil, mother Anna, brothers Karl, Heinz, Emil and Hans, and loving wife Eva. He is survived by his son Kim (Alicia) of Raleigh, North Carolina, granddaughter Alanna of London, England, several nieces and nephews, and friend/caregiver Lina Auciello of Brampton, Ontario. Out of respect for Paul’s wishes a funeral service will not be held, but a celebration of his life will be scheduled for a later date so that family and friends have an opportunity to rejoice in all of the happy moments that we shared with him. As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that you simply pass along an act of kindness to someone in his honor.
