Obituary of Alain Dubuc

ALAIN JEAN DUBUCIt is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Alain Jean Dubuc on Sunday, May 3, 2020, at the age of 71. Alain passed at his home in Ottawa after a battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.Loving husband of 48 years to Judy Dubuc, devoted father of Shawn (Meghan) Dubuc and Catherine (Sean) Robson, playful grandfather of Carter, Nolan and Emersyn Dubuc, and caring brother of Ginette, Serge and Sylvain Dubuc. Loving brother-in-law of Nancy (Doug) Mentzel, Janice (Dave) Stoddard, Ken (Irina) Saunderson, and Bob Saunderson, and compassionate family member and close friend to countless others.Alain was born in Montreal on October 23, 1948 and has called Ottawa his home since early childhood. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Carleton University and his law degree from the University of Ottawa. After practicing various fields of law, he became prominent in the fields of Indigenous treaty and land claims, and corporate commercial law.He loved his work with a passion that inspired his children to follow in his footsteps. Alain always prioritised family dinners, holidays and time at the family cottage. He loved reading, travelling, driving, and enjoying vintage wine and Macallan scotch. Alain had a great sense of humour, was a wonderful story-teller, and had a deeply ingrained sense of honour, honesty and fairness. He was playful and fun loving and totally devoted to his many loved ones.Due to the current restrictions, there will be a small, private ceremony for Alain’s immediate family on Saturday, May 9th. At a later time, when current restrictions are lifted, there will be a more inclusive ceremony.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, or another charity of your choice.
