Obituary of Geraldine Carter

A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 10, at Springfield Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home for Geraldine Edith Carter of Springfield, who died Dec. 2 of age-related causes. She was 89.She was born Jan. 14, 1922, in Coquille to Sam and Rose Carter Abell. She married George Chard in 1938 in Coos Bay. They later divorced. She married Olaf Kjelland on June 19, 1954, in Reno, Nev. He died Aug. 2, 1991. She married Duane Carter on Sept. 8, 1996, in Springfield. He died Feb. 28, 2003.She attended schools in Coos Bay. She was a homemaker and worked at J.C. Penney and at a nursery.Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Chard of Coos Bay and Raymond Chard of Coquille; two daughters, Connie Runyon of Yoncalla and Brenda Oberg of Eugene; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Donna Chard, died in 1991.Inurnment will be at Springfield Memorial Gardens.
