Gwendolyn FitzerA celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Berean Baptist Church in Eugene for Gwendolyn “Gwen” Fitzer of Eugene, who died Dec. 3 of cancer. She was 87.She was born Oct. 29, 1924, in Nevada, Mo., to Leonard and Doris Shaw McClellan. She married Jack Fitzer on April 7, 1950, in Joplin, Mo.She attended Cottey College in Nevada, Mo., and graduated from Baylor University in Texas with degrees in social work and Bible studies. She worked at Baptist churches in Waco, Texas, and Joplin and Carthage, Mo., was a homemaker and worked as a executive secretary for the National Association for Retarded Citizens. She wrote a book about her experiences at Mission Arlington in Texas.Survivors include her husband; three sons, Philip and Robert, both of Eugene, and Stanley of Arlington, Texas; a brother, James McClellan of Carthage, Mo.; and four grandchildren. A son, Michael, died previously.Private burial will be at West Lawn Memorial Park in Eugene. Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene. Remembrances to Pearl Buck Center.
