Obituary of Desmond Sansome
Peacefully on Saturday, May 2nd 2020 at Burton Manor after a short illness, Desmond succumbed to the COVID 19 virus at the age of 94. Loving and devoted husband of Audrey for 70 years. Loving father of Barry (Lynda) and Philip (Laura). Proud grandfather of Gregory (Meagan) and Jeffrey (Flora) and great-grandfather of Winston, Preston and Ethan. Desmond was pre-deceased by his parents, Sidney and Lilian and by his brothers Sidney and Maurice, and survived by his brothers Philip and Alan.Thank you to the care workers, nursing staff and doctors at Burton Manor for their loving and attentive care. Born in Birmingham, England in 1926, Desmond served in the Royal Army Medical Corps in World War II and as a medic, travelled by ship repatriating troops from the Far East and other parts of the world. He reached the rank of sergeant before demobilization. He worked for many years for a tour operator, managing the planning of day excursions and vacations by coach. Desmond and Audrey came to Canada in 1976, following their two sons. Desmond enjoyed a long and happy retirement with his wife, Audrey, travelling extensively in Canada and the United States having acquired his love of travel from his wartime exploits and his work with the tour operator.The interment of his remains and a celebration of his life will take place later at a date to be announced, when family and friends are able to gather together.Please keep Desmond and his family in your thoughts and prayers and feel free to leave a condolence for the family in the guestbook section of this page.
