Obituary of Giuseppina Marino

Giuseppina “Pina” Marino (née Piro) died peacefully at The Waterford Long Term Care Home on May 2, 2020 in Oakville, Ontario at the age of 95. Giuseppina is survived by her children, Donna Girardi (Gerry); Peter Marino and Linda Ancona (Tony): Grandchildren, Jerry Girardi (Grace), Carlo Girardi (Laura), Ginette Marino (Kris Jackson), Nancy Ruth (Daniel), Kathleen Donaldson (George), Adrian Ancona. Her great grandchildren, Alyssa, Jenna, Lucas, Julian Girardi, Connor Girardi, Elsie, Betty Ruth and Vivian Donaldson. She is preceded in death by her husband of 73 years Natale Marino. Giuseppina was born on September 9, 1924 in Siculiana, Sicily .She married Natale Marino at the age of 17 on October 16, 1941. She spent many days sewing garments for friends and relatives in Sicily. In 1958 she along with her husband and two children Donna and Peter made the long voyage overseas to immigrate to Canada. They arrived on November 10, 1958 in Halifax, Nova Scotia and made their way by train to Oakville, Ontario. They settled down on Morden Road where they lived until 2007. She worked in as a seamstress doing alternations on garments. On March 7, 1965 the couple welcomed their 3rd child Linda born to both a little later in their lives. Giuseppina was accomplished at sewing, but her other passion was baking. She loved to bake cookies and cakes. She loved music and in her later years at the nursing home everyone knew “Pina” she was always walking around singing and dancing her way through the halls. A funeral is scheduled for Thursday May 7, 2020 at Glen Oaks Funeral Home. Due to COVID-19 regulations, the family is having a private funeral service. The service will be live streamed at 1:00pm.
