Obituary of Donald Schmitt

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 10 at the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 290 Union Hall in Springfield for Donald H. Schmitt of Eugene, who died Nov. 23 at age 79. The family chose not to list the cause of death.He was born Jan. 4, 1932, in Indiana to Nicholas and Wilma Schmitt. He married Susan Johnson on Aug. 23, 1958, in Augusta, Wis. He married Collene Smith on Nov. 2, 1985, in Eugene.He worked as a dairy farmer in Wisconsin and, after moving to Oregon in 1965, worked as an industrial plumber and pipefitter. He retired in 1987.Survivors include his second wife; two sons, John of Clancy, Mont., and Chris of Veneta; a daughter, Cynthia Schmitt of Dallas, Ore.; three stepsons, Mike Smith of Tahlequah, Okla., Rod Smith of Bend and Randy Smith of Athol, Idaho; a sister, Cele Boyer of Eugene; 16 grandchildren; and multiple great-grandchildren.Arrangements by Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home in Junction City.
