Obituary of Claire Stewart
Jennifer Claire Stewart, affectionately known as Claire, was born on July 26, 1960 in Manchester, England, to parents Claude and Winniebell Stewart who predeceased her. As it was for many black immigrants to the UK, Claire grew up in a loving family with her two sisters and one brother in England, and two sisters and two brothers in Jamaica. In college, Claire obtained her secretarial administration diploma, and went on to work at the USDAW trade union and Great Universal Stores. In 1989, she immigrated to Canada and settled in Mississauga, ON. With an infectious laugh, a warm smile, and a funny accent, Claire had no problems landing a customer service role at Motorola, where she worked for 20 years; she then accepted a new opportunity as a Customer Care Associate at Accuristix.Claire married Owen Dawns on September 4, 1994, and relocated to Brampton, ON.Claire was a driven professional with a love of British TV soaps, humbug mints, and Earl Grey tea…and she loved a good sale! Claire loved spending time with her family, always willing to lend a helping hand. She also loved her church family, offering much of her time preparing personal care packages to support various ministries. Even when diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2019, she remained dedicated to her faith and her will to fight the illness. She remained a brave, iron-willed woman, even throughout her final weeks.Dearly missed but never forgotten by her siblings Janet (Aubrey), Malcolm (Linda), Barbara (Ricardo), Dorothy (Neville), Elaine, Merva (Edson), Joslyn, her nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and colleagues. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Odette Cancer Centre and Credit Valley Hospital for their care and compassion. In light of the current pandemic, the family will be having a private service for Claire.
