Obituary of Maria Melino

Maria Melino, born on March 01, 1939, passed away on April 26, 2020 at the age of 81. Maria will be deeply missed by Pietro, her loving husband of 60 years. She came to Canada in 1957 and returned to Italy to marry Pietro on February 6, 1960 in the southern region of Puglia. They then moved to Canada and made their home on the island of Montreal that same year; eventually moving again in 1977 to finally settle in the greater metropolitan Toronto area. She retired at age 65 after a 47-year career working as a seamstress to look after her aging parents.A caring daughter, a loving wife, a devoted mother to her three sons and their spouses and an adoringly affectionate grandmother to her seven grandchildren and great grandson, she will be warmly remembered and missed by her husband, her children Domenic (Michèle), Tony (Neelu), Daniel (Christine) as well as her seven grandchildren, Abrianna (Colin), Laurenne, Peter, Helen, Jaiden, Christopher and Armaan. She will also be fondly remembered to her great-grandson Isaiah and her soon to arrive great-granddaughter.Maria was also the sole surviving child to her deceased parents Antonio and Pasqualina Lombardi and sister to her deceased younger brother Angelo. She will also be remembered by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Antonio and Maria Rainone, Antonio and Graziella Melino and her nephews and nieces as well as numerous cousins in Canada and Italy.Our family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Lakeridge Health Oshawa and Bowmanville Hospitals for taking gentle care of Maria over the last 4 months and for their kind consideration of the family during her last few days.We covet your kind thoughts, warm wishes and prayers during this difficult time for our family, however, due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be a limited visitation at the Highland Funeral Home. A memorial and celebration of life will be planned as appropriate at a later date. In honour of Maria, donations can be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Alzheimer Society of Canada and/or Diabetes Canada.
