Obituary of Hock Nee Wong

We are saddened to announce the passing of Hock Nee Wong, who died peacefully at home among his loving family on April 28, 2020 at 1:55am, at the age of 89, in Toronto.Hock is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Margaret; his children, Stephen, Simon, Lily, and Michael; his grandchildren; Stephanie, Andrew, Ethan, Joshua, Jessica, and Kendrick; daughters-in-laws Dinah, Maesheen, Annie, and Cindy.Hock was born in Singapore on Aug 26, 1930. He was the 5th child out of eight siblings to parents Ng See Seng and Tan Peck Choo. He studied at the University of Cambridge and the City and Guilds of London Institute and in 1952 he started a career as a Quantitative Surveyor. He worked at Langdon and Every Chartered Quantity Surveyors in Singapore and Hong Kong until 1967. On July 22, 1956, he married his lovely wife, Margaret Ai Hwa Hsu in Malaysia.After having four children in Singapore and Hong Kong, Hock and his family immigrated to Canada in 1968 and settled in Oakville. He worked at Droge Contruction Ltd from 1968 to 1970, but to due to health issues, he switched his career and opened The Mystic East, a gift store in downtown Oakville, specializing in unique gifts from Asia.After many years in the retail business, Hock became a jeweller and switched from gifts to high end jewellery, selling diamond and gold jewellery, and opening Sincere Jewellers Ltd in Oakville, with stores in Hopedale Mall and on Kerr St in Oakville.After retirement in 1985, Hock spent most of his time with friends and family, travelling and attending church and bible study with his wife.He leaves the world with few regrets and many accomplishments, having a loving wife and family, and nurturing many friendships during his life.
