Obituary of Ying Yee Lai

On Tuesday, 14 April 2020, Ying Yee Lai, loving mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 77.Ying Yee was born in Guangdong, China and, after her marriage to Joe Lai, emigrated to South Africa in 1966.Ying Yee and her husband owned family businesses and their focus was to give their children the best upbringing and education they could.Ying Yee will always be remembered for her outgoing, friendly nature - her infectious laugh could always be heard at social gatherings.She loved to experiment with food and always prepared traditional Chinese meals. On Sunday mornings, her family would wake up to wonderful smells of congee and various dishes of dim sum wafting through the house. She often catered for family and friends for special occasions.After the passing of Ying Yee’s husband in 2004, she emigrated to Canada.In lieu of flowers, and adhering to the restraint on gatherings due to the outbreak of COVID-19, our family have set up a page for donations that will go towards support of the Lung Association – Ontario.We have chosen the Lung Association due to Ying Yee’s battle with pneumonia two years ago and the coinciding of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.
