Obituary of James Petty

A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Dec. 18 at Fern Ridge Middle School in Elmira for James Clark “Jim” Petty of Elmira, who died Dec. 3 of complications from injuries sustained in a car accident. He was 59.He was born April 23, 1952, in Detroit, Mich., to Ervin and Lois Hall Petty. He married Carol Kohls on June 27, 1981, in Gillett, Wis.He graduated with a bachelor of science degree from the University of Oregon in 1987.He worked as an educator in Lane County for 25 years, teaching at the Opportunity Center and at Junction City High School.Survivors include his wife; a son, Jeff of Portland; a daughter, Amy Petty of Eugene; two brothers, Ervin of Eagle River, Alaska, and Mike of Canton, Mich.; and a sister, Sherry Morganti of Estacada.Arrangements by Lane Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Eugene.Remembrances to the Jim Petty Scholarship Fund at Mid-Lane Community Chest or its Love Project, or A.R.T.
