Obituary of Rosalia Panetta

Rosalia Panetta (Panettieri)May 11 1923 – April 13 2020Rosalia Panetta (Panettieri) passed away peacefully of natural causes at Villa Forum in Mississauga on Monday April 13, 2020. Devoted wife to the late Cosimo Damiano Panetta and loving mother to Pasqualina (William) and Rosanna (Loren). Proud grandmother to Giulia, Giancarlo (Erin), Vanessa, and Bianca. A caring sister, Rosalia was part of a large Italian family and is predeceased by three of her 6 siblings Angelina, Nicoletta, and Giovanni. She is survived by Giuseppe, Graziella and Ninetta. She will be greatly missed by her extended family of sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, and friends. Rosalia was blessed to be able to live in her own home while attending the day program at Villa Columbo until the last months of her life.Born in Pisticci, Matera, Italy, Rosalia lived a good life as a master tailor. Her creations ranged from men’s suits to wedding dresses and she could repair and alter just about anything. At her husband’s insistence, the family immigrated to Toronto in 1957 with the hope of providing more opportunities for their daughters. With goodness and simplicity, Rosalia dedicated her life to her family. Her work ethic inspired those around her to be the best they could be. She was self-less in her ongoing efforts to provide support for her extended family and friends in whatever they required of her. Whether it was making or repairing a garment, cooking and baking, or just lending a helping hand.Rosalia played a major role in the raising of her four grandchildren and provided the same support for her extended family. It was only when her family was less reliant on her that she took the opportunity to return to her beloved Pisticci and oversaw the renovation of her house on Via Manzoni. Once the house was completed, she spent the next 13 years, travelling to Italy where she spent extended periods of time there with cherished family and friends. Rosalia took great pride in the fact that her family will continue to enjoy her Pisticci home for many years to come.Rosalia’s legacy will live on through her family who have fond memories of her love and generous dedication to putting our needs before hers. Donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario or Villa Columbo-Frail and Elderly Day Program. In light of the global pandemic and restrictions on large group gatherings, a private service will be held. Your condolences during this very difficult time are sincerely appreciated.
