Obituary of Matteo Modestino
Memoriam of our father. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Matteo Modestino. He passed away peacefully at the Village of Erin Meadows Long Term Nursing Home in Mississauga on Wednesday April 15, 2020 in his 87th Year. Matteo will be remembered by his many relatives and friends as a kind and generous man who was a respected member of his community and proud of his many accomplishments. He was a master welder and a successful business owner of the company which bore his name “Matteo Railings.” For more than 3 decades he fabricated and supplied custom railings, steel stairs, and balconies in the Greater Toronto Area. His works in metal can still be seen on buildings and properties to this day. Perhaps one of the family's most sentimental works from Matteo can be seen at the family’s former home, 3 Branch Avenue (Long Branch), Etobicoke, Ontario. When Matteo wasn’t fabricating metal at work, he enjoyed big game hunting, the sport of Trapshooting, and loved classic Italian music. He also loved parties and being around people. He would often be seen at events moving from table to table posing as a waiter to share his jar of homemade hot peppers. In his later years, if someone was looking for Matteo, he could always be found in the garden at the property on Dundas and Old Bronte Road, aka Palermo. It was his personal National Park where he’d spend hours a day cutting the grass or tending to the pomodoro in the garden. Born in Roseto Valfortore, Foggia, Italy on September 15, 1933 to his late parents Filippo Antonio and Maria Grazia (Menecola). Matteo is survived by his wife of 65 years Francesca (D’Aloia). Respected Father to Philip (Diane), Biagio (Karen), Danielo (Dawn) and daughter Maria Grazia. Matteo was Nonno to Matthew (Jennifer), Michael (Karen), Michelle (Jay), Monica, Rachel, Jacob, Julia, and Great Nonno to Noah and Ava. Matteo will be missed by his sister Maria (John) and we know he will be reunited with his late brother Leonard (Lucia) and their Mother and Father. We find comfort in knowing that Matteo is in paradise singing with family and friends happy as can be. We imagine the first thing he did when he met St. Peter was to offer his services to create and weld some additional iron scrolling to enhance the look of the gates of heaven. We will unite with you again Matteo. Until then we know you are watching over us.Due to COVID-19 the service will be private Please take a moment to sign the Family's guestbook and join the Modestino family in with prayers by clicking the link below.Live stream will begin at 11:55 am on Saturday, April 18, 2020.http://www.distantlink.com/dlm77.htmluse password: Arbor1
