Obituary of Ilda Czaplinski
We are truly saddened and heartbroken to announce that on April 10, 2020, at the age of 90, Ilda (Amiconi) Czaplinski passed away in Toronto, Ontario.She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Jan Czaplinski, in 2005, and five of her seven siblings.Ilda will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her daughters, Estelle (John) and Anita (Guy †), and her five grandsons, Adam (Jessica), Vincent (Bianca), Justin (Jenna), Anthony (Alicia) and John. Also, Alfred (Line), her sister Iolanda, and many nieces and nephews. Ilda was born in Civitella del Tronto, Abruzzo, Italy on December 22, 1929, the fifth of seven surviving children, to Ezechiele and Giulia. She helped her family work and harvest their land in Italy, but decided to join her sister Anna and immigrate to Canada in 1956, after the hardships of the Second World War. In Toronto, she socialized with an extended community of Italian-Polish couples, where she met her husband Jan, who had also lived through the war. They built an active life in the Junction neighborhood, raising two children together. Ilda worked at the Neilson chocolate factory on Gladstone Avenue for fifteen years and loved socializing with all of her co-workers. After her husband passed away, her five grandsons kept her spirit alive. Making amazing pizza, lasagna, and panetonne was a joy to her. She spent many days on her beloved veranda having coffee and biscotti with her friends and neighbours.She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by everyone who knew her.There will be a celebration of Ilda’s life at a later date, to be announced.Donations in the memory of Ilda can be made to the Canadian Lung Association and Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
