Obituary of Eugene Draper

Eugene Richard Draper of Eugene died Dec. 14 of lung cancer. He was 88. A memorial service is planned for later.He was born July 4, 1923, in Grand Island, Neb., to Delmer and Maybelle Jones Draper. He married Nancy Harrington on Sept. 5, 1947, in Los Angeles.He graduated from Hamilton High School in West Los Angeles in 1941 and received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1950. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1946 with the 76th infantry division in Germany during World War II. He was a partner in an engineering firm that designed microwave communication for the aerospace industry from 1950 to 1975. After moving to Eugene in 1978, he designed assembly equipment for the production of laser scanners at Spectra-Physics until his retirement in 1998.Survivors include his wife; two sons, Paul of Eugene and Alan of La Verne, Calif.; a daughter, Janet Worthington of Hillsboro; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.Arrangements by Lane Memorial Funeral Homein Eugene.
