Obituary of Manfred Linde
Manfred (Fred) Erwin Linde was born on October 30, 1938 in the suburbs of Berlin. Early in life he enrolled in vocational training to become a pipefitter, a career choice that would take him all over the world, one that would allow him to often excel past his more formally educated peers. His line of work only opened the door; his courage, convictions, dedication, and work ethic are what carried him through to the end of all the opportunities he seized. He arrived in Canada in 1958. His work would see him leave and return to London, Ontario, his first Canadian city, many times. Work took him to northern Manitoba, to Saudi Arabia, to Romania, to physical and psychological environments where he outlasted many. He endured it all, and it rewarded him greatly.Fred came to be a patient man; father of Earl,David, Otto, and Michael. He passed on values of correctness, adaptability, and meticulousness which inspired and helped his family grow. He loved helping family and friends. He showed you anything was possible if you were organized. He loved classical music (David Garrett), jogging, Formula 1 and “Keeping up Appearances”. But above all he loved his family. The last years of his life, he spend between Canada and Romania, loving both countries equally. He passed peacefully at Credit Valley Hospital after fighting lung disease. He was deeply moved by the Covenant House Program. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Covenant House Toronto Charity.
