Obituary of Giovanni Amantea

GIOVANNI (JOHN) AMANTEA - October 24, 1925 to March 31, 2020It is with great sadness that the family of Giovanni Amantea announces his passing on March 31, 2020 at the age of 94.John was born in Calabria, Italy and emigrated to Canada as a young man in 1954 to build a better life for his family. He was one of the first Italian immigrants in Oakville and worked at various occupations until taking early retirement from Canadian General Electric in order to help raise his granddaughters. He had four passions in life--cooking, making wine, tending his large vegetable and flower garden and, most of all, spending time with his family.John will be forever remembered by his children, Amelia and Tony, grandchildren Eleanor (Chris) Ramuscak and Christine (Joshua) Rosal, and great-grandchildren David, Daniel and Maria Ramuscak. He will also be lovingly remembered by his surviving siblings, Giuseppe, Rosa, Norina, Gina and Gennaro and his many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. John was predeceased by his wife Dina, son-in-law David Elstub and siblings including his twin sister Maria, and brothers Salvatore, Antonio and Francesco.A Celebration of Life service for friends and extended family will be held at a future date. Memorial donations in memory of John may be made to the C.N.I.B. or The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
