Obituary of Susan Joan Burak

Susan Joan Burak (Dickie)nee Zelek, age 74With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Susan Joan Burak. Susan passed peacefully at Dorothy Ley Hospice, March 27, 2020 after a strong battle and lengthy illness due to long term diabetes. A heartfelt thank you to all the doctors, nurses and support workers who believed in her, and helped to extend her time with us.Loving Babcia to her handsome grandsons, Matthew and Michael, devoted Mother of Tara and Tanya Burak and son in law Simon Ryan, loyal Wife of the late Lawrence Burak, cherished Sister of Walter (Uwa) Zelek, and of the late Mary-Anne Hrycanuk and the late Donna Walc. Caring Aunt to Les, Deryk, Laurene, Kristina, Alanna and Michael.She will be dearly missed by her life long friends who were family to her, those from St. Mary’s Polish Parish, high school, neighbors in High Park, The Junction and Bloor West Village, and most recently her Coffee Club.A kind and caring friend to all of her colleagues during her career at the Federal Government, Shell Oil and in retirement at the Disney Store and Elections - she was a people person and most happy when working and helping others.A collector of many curious and wonderful things, from toys to Barbie to antiques, she took as much joy from collecting as she did sharing her stories and time with others.Her love of travel took her to Europe and any place where there was sun and friends. She would never turn down the offer of a good polka or miss an episode of Young & The Restless. Clever and witty, she loved to read and stay up to date on current events, she always had something to add to any conversation.Now at peace - remember Dickie for her giving and selfless kind heart, and beautiful blue eyes.Cremation will take place, as per her wishes. A Celebration of Life will be planned.Donations in remembrance can be made to the Dorothy Ley Hospice, whose staff honoured her dignity in her final days, respecting and caring for her with compassion and empathy.
