Obituary of Jim Funkhouser

Jim FunkhouserA memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, at Peace Presbyterian Church in Eugene for Jim Funkhouser of Eugene, who died Dec. 28 of kidney failure and complications from dementia. He was 79.He was born Nov. 23, 1932, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Ernest and Gene Hammond Funkhouser. He married Margaret “Peggy” Richardson on June 17, 1955, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.He graduated from Sewanee Military Academy in Tennessee. He held a bachelor of science degree from the University of Wyoming. He worked as a geologist in Canada before getting a master’s degree in education from the University of Oregon, He taught science at Cal Young Junior High and Kennedy Middle School until his retirement.Survivors include his wife; two sons, Clay of Beaverton and Rob of New York City; a daughter, Laurie Funkhouser of Eugene; a brother, Garrett of Olds, Alberta, Canada; a sister, Gene Jones of Midland, Texas; and four grandchildren.Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.Remembrances to Active Lives, Active Minds or to the church.
