Obituary of Ricardo Alfredo Vite

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Ricardo Alfredo Vite on Sunday, March 1.Beloved son, brother, husband, father, father-in-law, nonno, uncle, son-in-law, brother-in-law, cousin and friend. In 1967, he left his treasured home of Buenos Aires, Argentina leaving his cherished family and friends to search out a better life. In Canada he met his treasured wife of 47 years, Michelina, and together they began their journey raising their daughters Filomena (Gino), Monica (Massimo) and Josie (Andrea). As a family, so many happy memories were shared over the years, including the birth of his beloved grandchildren Dante, Jean Luc, Justin and Andrew who he is so very proud of.From working as a telephone operator, electrical technician and as a restaurant entrepreneur in Buenos Aires to working in the mines in Sudbury, at KFC (he loved to tell the tale of having eaten 15 pieces of chicken in one sitting!) and American Standard in Toronto, hard and honest work were how he tirelessly created a strong foundation and strong family roots. With a genuine and passionate desire to make the world a better place for future generations, he was involved in many undertakings including his involvement with his labour union and volunteering for the 2015 Pan American Games and countless political campaigns. A true socialist at heart. He had a real passion for all sports, but most of all soccer from a young age and hockey as soon as he stepped foot in this country. The Maple Leafs, Raptors, Blue Jays, Toronto FC, Boca Juniors and AC Milan were at the centre of it all.Compassion, generosity, passion and kindness were only a few of his greatest qualities. He taught us the importance of working hard, loving hard and playing hard. His sweet smile was infectious. His zest for life carried him through difficult times including over two years of a hard and valiantly fought battle with gastric cancer. He’s a real inspiration to us all. He will be sorely missed but he leaves with us a legacy that we will cherish forever. Gone from this world but never, ever forgotten. Rest In Peace, Papi. We adore you.Visitation will take place at the Glendale Funeral Home (1810 Albion Rd., Etobicoke) on Thursday, March 5, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be celebrated on Friday, March 6 at 9:30 a.m. in the Glendale Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ricardo’s memory to The Dorothy Ley Hospice and/or The Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care. Our heartfelt thanks to the incredible doctors, nurses, personal support workers, volunteers and other staff at both of these organizations. Your care, support and kindness will remain forever in our hearts.
