Obituary of Margaret Joyce Thompson

THOMPSON, Margaret Joyce (nee Furrie) 1934 ~ 2020With great sadness we announce the passing of Joyce Thompson of Manotick, Ontario on February 19, 2020 at the age of 85 years, with her daughter Erin by her side. Joyce is lovingly remembered by her children, son Brian, daughter Jennifer Welch (Chris), daughter Joanne, son James (Mariette), daughter Sheila Whitman (Glenn) and daughter Erin; her grandchildren Chelsea, Vanessa, Dylan, and Nicolas; also her nieces, nephews and friends. Joyce was predeceased by her husband, John Thompson, her brother Kenneth Furrie, her sisters, Lillian Charchuk and Joan Furrie, her parents Helen and John Furrie and her granddaughter, Jordan Ainsley Whitman.Joyce spent her childhood years in Old Chelsea, Quebec and graduated from Notre Dame High School in Ottawa. Joyce went on to earn her RNA Certification and worked at Carleton Lodge, providing care and assistance to seniors until her retirement. During her retirement years Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family and many wonderful friends; playing bridge, gardening and travelling.No visitation by request. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Leonard Parish, 5332 Long Island Road, Manotick, Ontario. Interment will follow at Capital Funeral Home and Cemetery located at 3700 Prince of Wales Drive, Nepean, Ontario.Joyce’s family would like to thank the staff at Orchard Walk Retirement Community in Greely, Ontario and Longfields Manor Long Term Care Home in Nepean, Ontario for the loving care and support provided to Joyce and her family in her final years.Donations in memory of Joyce may be directed to the Dementia Society of Ottawa or The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.
