Obituary of Donald Mattson

Donald MattsonSPRINGFIELD — A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Walterville Grange Hall for Donald Raymond Mattson of Springfield, who died Jan. 15 of congestive heart failure. He was 80.He was born Sept. 17, 1931, in Portland to Ellen Cox and Ernest Bailey. He married Betty Journey in April 1974 in Reno, Nev.He graduated from University High School in Eugene in 1950. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1952 to 1954. He worked as a storeroom clerk at Weyerhaeuser for 41 years.Survivors include his wife; five sons, Garry Journey of Crescent, David Journey of Summer Lake, Daniel Journey and Kevin Journey, both of Springfield, and Phillip Journey of Auburn, Wash.; a daughter, JoAnn Stephens of Springfield; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.
