Obituary of Marie Rolande Bertille Johnson
On Saturday, February 7, 2020, Betty Johnson, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 97 at Niagara-On-The-Lake Ontario. Betty was born Marie Roland Bertille Albert on September 22, 1922, on a farm in St Hillaire Madwaska County, New Brunswick. She worked in an aircraft parts manufacturing plant in New Brunswick and transferred to Toronto during WWII. In Toronto, she met and married the love of her life Norman William Johnson and raised their son Bruce. Betty and Norm loved animals and people, especially children. You were always welcome at the Johnsons; once inside their home, you were greeted with smiles and offered food and drink. Every Sunday, Betty would cook a roast with all the fixings, and when the grandchildren came, which was almost every Sunday, they knew they were in on an excellent spoiling and lots of smiles and laughter. Betty's life was not always comfortable losing her mother at a very young age and living through the Depression and WWII, but she was determined and left a legacy of love and kindness. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Norm and her stepdaughter Barbara Walker. She survived by her family: son Bruce and his wife Laurel Johnson, her grandchildren, Elizabeth Van Leeuwen, who was Betty's primary caregiver, Erin and Frank Giaretto, and Dan Johnson, and great-grandchildren, Meghan, Ronan, and Fiona. Special thanks to her grandchildren's mother, Lee-Anne, and her mother, Edna Gullins, for their support throughout the years. Betty was fortunate to spend her last days in the kind and professional care of the staff at Chartwell Niagara in Niagara-on-the Lake. A memorial service will be held at Pleasantville Funeral Home & Cemetery located at 2250 Highway #20, Fonthill, Ontario L0S 1E6 on Saturday, February 22nd, 2020 @ 2:00 p.m.
