Obituary of Joseph Alexander Legris
Our dear husband and friend passed away suddenly in Ottawa. He will be missed by all those who knew him.It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected death of Joseph (Joe) Legris at the age of 65. Joe was born on March 28, 1954 and died on February 1, 2020 at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute with his beloved wife Jacky, family, friends, and Pastor Gerald Chan at his side. Joe and Jacky Ngo met in Toronto in 1986 and they were married in Hong Kong in 1989. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Ruth Legris (née Leslie) and George Legris, and is survived by his five brothers and sisters, Margaret Foster (Brian), Peter (Lorène Bourgeois), Mary, Sylvia (Guy Vanderhaeghe), and Paul (Kathleen), as well as six nephews. Joe was born and grew up in Winnipeg and, after residing in Hong Kong, where he worked for Canadian Standards Association, and Toronto, he eventually moved to Ottawa where he lived until his death. Joe attended Kelvin High School in Winnipeg, and received a Bachelor of Science at the University of Manitoba where he excelled in Physics and Mathematics; he later studied Neuroscience at Carleton University in Ottawa. Both entrepreneur and innovator, over the years Joe owned and operated several computer software research and development companies: Symbiosis R&D in Winnipeg; Red Planet Instruments in Toronto; and, most recently, Random Logic in Ottawa. In the world of Information Technology, Joe was a true visionary. He possessed a wide-ranging intelligence and creativity, as well an immense, generous, and wicked sense of humour—he loved watching Seinfeld, Frasier, Stephen Colbert, Big Bang Theory, SNL, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Mr. Bean, and Tina Fey. He was an avid reader and enjoyed the New York Times. A Memorial Service will be held on February 15, 2020, 11:00 AM-12:00 PM, followed by a reception from 12:00 PM-2:00 PM at Capital Funeral Home, 3700 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa, ON, K2C 3H1, with the Reverend David Pan officiating.
