Obituary of Royston Lall

It is with profound sadness that the family of Royston Lall announce that he passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday January 30th at the age of 90 years. He will be remembered as a loving father to Nigel, Bryan, Rosemarie Nadira (Leo), Nadia (Joe), and Sonyalisa (Michel). Wonderful Grandpa to Michaela, Rohan, Sanjay & Damiana; Christian & Jacqueline; Selina & Rachel (mother, Janet); Kaamila (mother, Yasmin); and Sébastien & Stéphane. Cherished brother to Joyce (Roy) and Clarence. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 45 years, Sunita (nee Ramdeholl), siblings Arnold, George, Sheila, and his parents, Rosaline and Chunilall, as well as his beloved second mother, Auntie Jane. Royston was born in Land of Canaan, Guyana. At the age of one he went to live with Auntie Jane in Georgetown, Guyana until his teens. After finishing high school at Queen’s College, where he not only excelled in academics earning him a full scholarship to complete both his Bachelor’s and Master’s Program at the University of Punjab; he was also a track and field runner, often placing in the top three. After successfully completing his Master’s degree, he returned to Guyana and began teaching at Berbice High School where he met Sunita, his future wife. With his young family, he decided to further his education at the University of Saskatchewan in the PhD program which he successfully completed in 1967 “The influence of temperature and humidity on the development of Tenebrio molitor”. He was a respected teacher of biology in Danville High School (Eastern Townships, Quebec) and then at Howard S. Billings High School (Chateauguay, Quebec) until his retirement in 1982. To honour Royston’s lifelong dedication to science and education, the family respectfully requests in lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations be made in Royston’s name to University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine Fundamental Science Research (donate.utoronto.ca) “Fundamental Science Research” link.The family extends their deepest gratitude for the kindness and love that the staff at Trilogy Long Term Care Home (McCowan Road) gave to their father and family.
